My God..5 children die every day as a result of abuse or neglect in this country??? 15 million children witness domestic violence in their homes each year??
Just read that neglect causes 78% of those deaths followed by abuse and “other causes”. The United states has the one of the worst records for an industrialized nation on the planet.
And yet we call ourselves “the greatest nation on earth”??

All of those so called “socialist” nations like Sweden, Canada, Great Britain, Netherlands, Germany etc. etc. that the Right wings hate so much and fear we will become more like, have the FEWEST incidences of child neglect and abuse in the world. Well, they have already shown they care about each other’s welfare, just in healthcare alone.
The right wants to make sure we remain an ” every man for himself” nation.
And by all means…lets not have abortion. Better to bring unloved children into the world……

To sheknows: I ditto everything you wrote. Well said, m’dear.

And it always makes me laugh out loud to hear Canada is referred to as a “socialist” nation by Americans, merely because we have a national health care system. Good lord. As a former business owner, believe me, we’re not. We’re just …. most definitely NOT!

LOLOLOL… brownies girl, you are sooo right . Canada is not exactly what we think of as a socialist country, but I included it, as well as most European countries because of socialized medicine. ( Sorry…but the right wing still doesn’t like you guys). I know you all like a good profit now and then, but not on the scale of Americans. :)

I know you all like a good profit now and then, but not on the scale of Americans.

Well, to be honest, I wouldn’t actually MIND it on the scale of Americans, :-) lord knows, we have our share of greedy cats in this city, but good lord, what would I do with all that money anyway, if it came my way. What do all those rich guys need billions for? I am right now looking out into my back yard — it’s dark but there’s a strong cool wind blowing the leaves off the silver maple next door and they’re doing little whirly-gigs on the deck, there’s a smell of snow in the air — the dogs are asleep on the rug at my feet and I’m enjoying an after dins glass of wine before the news comes on. Life is good here. There’s little stress — not the kind that those rich cats must often feel.

Tomorrow my job is to volunteer at the food bank and later at the hospital — holding hands and talking with patients who might not make it to next week. A million dollars won’t help those folks. Or me. We do what we can to help each other. I call it civilization. And peace at heart. Without peace of heart, life ain’t worth living.

    Good girl. :)
Worked in hospitals my whole life and held a lot of hands. Tiny ones to wrinkled ones. You are right. Helping others transition from one physical, emotional, or life stage is all we can really do. We are all going the same way. Why not help each other on this road.

That is why I do not understand the how that happens in the article above, or why there are people in our government who do not want to help others even though they easily can.
