Having been around in the '60s, I have very mixed feelings during this perios of remembrance.
I'm apalled by how little about MLK and that whole period some of the young know, even some black youths.
I also remember the reaction to him among whites who were not themselves bigoted. in an aggressive way. They were still taken aback by the show of strength King could produce with with his marches and boycotts.
Many whites really only warmed up to him when more militant groups emerged, like the Black Panthers whose guns absolutely scared them.

Now he has become an icon,. But how many really appreciate his extraordinary vision and accoplishement , given the context of his times?
For that matter, how many really appreciate the axtraordianry accomplishment of our Founding Fathers?

We take too much for granted, Including MLK Jr.

What the bed wetters forget, while messing their diapers over IslamoStooges, is the turmoil of the late 1960's. One day (9-11) and the resulting feeding frenzy, is mild in comparison to Watts,Detroit, Chicago and Kent State.

I actually think that although MLK would be disappointed in the condition of the country as appearantly 80% of other Americans do, he would be quite happy to see the accomplishments of what he and his co-horts started. He wanted race to no longer pay a factor in the average black American's pursuit of his/her American Dream and to a large extent it doesn't. It has been replaced by class, which is not good either, but that's another issue.
