It seemed like Gingrich was saying hey, we have to think outside the box in order to address these intractable social issues, outside of partisan viewpoints, and by that I mean we should accept the standard, conservative critique I've been pushing for 20 years: Hippies ruined the country with their love of drugs & free sex, high taxes, and burdensome regulation on businesses. He dismisses the effects of racism and says that the situation African Americans find themselves in is due to "bad culture" (pretty rich from a guy who cheated on his wives, divorced one while she was in the hospital with cancer and then didn't pay alimony or child support so her church had to raise money for her bills, admitted that he smoked weed, admitted to ethics violations in the senate, etc, etc) and "bad government". He may sound reasonable but he's the same person he was 20 years ago.

If it wasn't for political posturing Newt and Obama could come together on meaningful remedies.

I agree with much of Newt's assessment of the current obstacles to progress.

Newt seems to be all over the place on several issues---including the war and the environment. My guess is that he is an egotistical attention hog, who must constantly be in the spotlight. Otherwise his opinions would gel into a consistent ideology/world view.
