A Big Obama Endorsement in Pennsylvania

01aacasey_obama.jpg

The power of endorsements have been something of an unknown quantity in the Democratic presidential campaign, but Barack Obama bagged a big and surprising one today when Bob Casey Jr., a U.S. senator and superdelegate, came out for him.

Casey, the son of former Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey and who is about as conservative on social issues as Democrats come these days, appeals to the white working-class men who have voted for Hillary Clinton in large numbers in previous primaries.

Pennsylvania’s junior senator had said he would not endorse anyone before the all-important April 22 primary and his decision to back Obama puts him at odds with Governor Ed Rendell and other high-profile state Democrats.

With superdelegate support for the Hero of Bosnia crumbling, Will Bunch writes that:

“How ironic would it be if bland, uninspiring Bob Casey is the man who saves the national Democratic party from the abyss? This is clearly his biggest move since he took office 15 months ago, and I’ll have to say it shows a lot of guts. As is always the case with these endorsements, I don’t think the fact of Casey’s support sways individual voters, but the aura of Obama momentum might.”

    Judas!
  • Looks like Hillary's heavy handed tactics are backfiring.

Anyway, this is good news for Obama. I actually think he has a chance of turning Pennsylvania around into an actual victory. With Casey that makes it even more likely since it gives Obama a chance to win some rural support.

The trickle has begun- Richardson, Dodd, Casey plus Leahy's new call for an end to the internecine warfare, in the wake of an insulting letter from 20 wealthy powermongers threatening the most powerful woman in America with taking their money and going home... I think this steam is picking up. Even the media has begun to state the obvious. She simply can't win without burning down the Party..

The end of the beginning or the beginning of the end?

It is just the begining, Mike!!!

The Clinton’s are named defendants in a Civil Fraud Case connected to Campaign Finance irregularities and have not disclosed the appeal of the case. There will be a trial date set at a hearing on April 25th, just 3 days after the key Pennsylvania Primary for the Fraud Case Paul v. Clinton in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The Case is related to fundraisers and Campaign Finance irregularities and fraud.

Hillary Clinton has become Tonya Harding.
  • Since TX/OH, Clinton has lost 5 superdelegates and Obama has picked up 45. It's ridiculous to brand them as "Judas" unless we want to have lock-step loyalty to our political candidates. Obama is so far ahead that mathematically, he has won, fair and square, chosen by the voters. That many party "elders" are recognizing this and choosing him as the best hope for the party in November, as well as the choice of the people, is appropriate.
