Obviously I disagree with you. I am also not telling The Big Lie. My interpretation of the Florida events is that Gore CORRECTLY pursued his assessment and belief that he had gained more votes in Florida, and that a recount would show that he had.

When the Supreme Court made its decision, Gore gracefully stepped aside. If he still believes that he won, so do many historians and social scientists. Gore is entitled to argue in private life that in Florida in 2000, he actually received more votes, but that thanks to the ballot (how could so many Jewish voters have voted for Pat Buchanon? and recall, the hanging chads) and problems of counting the votes, Bush officially received more votes.

If you are arguing that this is “A Big Lie” (which you must know implies that I am a fan of Goebbels, when I am a mild mannered soon to be 60 private citizen just trying to understand the world like everyone else), you are mistaken. Gore has never led any movement to say that President Bush was not his president.

I think Nixon had a similar claim to have actually won Illinois in 1960. Neither Albert Gore nor Richard Nixon is perfect, but at some point in each man's political life, they put our wonderful nation above their own self-interest.

p.s. only on the internet could someone like me be accused of fostering “The Big Lie.” You should be joking when you make those claims, but at least be correct.

I mean, seriously, first he conceded to Bush, then he changed his mind.

Then he went back to the Florida courts with different rigged count schemes to his favor, which went to SCOTUS.

They vacated, without dissent, the first Florida Supreme court ruling as violating both the the Federal and Florida constitutions, then the second time, by a 7-2 vote, that the recount as defined by the Florida courts was again unconstitutional (before he gave up the ghost).

I cannot think of a politician who did more to damage people's faith in the electoral system than Gore.

The Big Lie is not going to fly on that one.

Now the Clinton campaign is circulating an “American Spectator” magazine column to attack an Obama surrogate (Gen. McPeak) as an anti-semite. Of course, American Spectater was the Scaife-funded rag that “broke” such serious and credible stories as Whitewater, Troopergate, and Hillary's murder of Vince Foster. She's been praising McCain, who once joked that Chelsea was so ugly she could be the love child of Hillary and Janet Reno, and Rupert Murdoch is holding fundraisers for her.

I know Al Gore would not “do anything” to win. How? He did NOT treat the election of 2000 as if he mattered more than the political health of our nation. Gore had challenges open to him; he came up to the microphone and said George W. Bush is the next president.

When Gore did this, he KNEW that he had been slighted by the Florida vote and the Supreme Court and the Main Stream Media.

I stopped being a supporter of The Clinton's in January of this year because I realized that for 16 years I said reflexively, “So?” and “Everybody does it” and “Other people are worse” and so on.

When you stop excusing The Clinton's, or anybody, there is such freedom.

But, again, NO! Everybody doesn't run a scorched earth campaign to save themselves. Even Richard Nixon resigned, to his great credit, rather than putting the country through any more turmoil.
