Phil Bredesen, that is, two-term Democratic governor of Tennessee, described as “an even-keeled political pragmatist.”
He’s not committed yet to either Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama, so he has some credibility when he suggests the Dem superdelegates have their own primary — in June, rather than waiting until the Convention in late August.
Will two-plus months make a difference in the party’s chances for the White House? Who knows, but if nothing else, the Dems should probably give Gov. Phil’s proposal a thorough once-over. This fight’s only going to get uglier as the summer progresses.
It is a reasonable proposal but does not really address the concerns that someone with more popular and delegate votes can be overridden by the super delegates.
What many independents may want to see is that the Democrats can solve daunting problems.
What would inspire me would be a grand bargain between Clinton and Obama to run together and split responsibilities for the various major issues and then to switch roles in the 2012 election. Something like this was agreed to between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
Challenging times call for challenging remedies.
Of course, the superdelegates don't have to wait for an official primary to make their voice heard. They could simply declare their intentions now as Richardson and many others have done.
Wow, what an idea. Shorten the primary process, what out of the box thinking madman could have devised such an insane idea? Its impossible, it would never work! Now all they have to do is get the actual voting done in a week, or better yet a day, and we could get on with life.
