Israel as Haven for Africans; Mostly from Darfur

Well, they don't get relief in Egypt or other countries in the abutting Arab world. So they come to Israel. They are met by bureaucratic indifference and by popular sympathy. Already in the two and a half months of 2008, according to Mijal Grinberg in Ha'aretz, some 2,400 African refugees from Darfur and elsewhere in the heart of darkness have arrived in what seems to them, too, as the promised land. And Israel copes and helps.
