Much of his fiction became fact. He was a "hard science fiction" writer along the lines of James P. Hogan. He avoided writing pulp like Alan Dean Foster, with plausible science and plot lines. A wonderfully imaginative writer. I recommend Rendezvous with Rama or Childhood's End.
