George:
I'll make a note about that book, thanks. I'm planning on doing some online ordering soon. And I do have his short stories which I plan to read. The next book I'd like to read is You Can't Go Home Again (I believe that is the title). It's interesting how he takes his real life and makes it into his fiction. (Being that these books are about writers). I read Look Homeward, Angel and recognized the potential but it still came across as a "young" book to me (I think he was only 23 when he wrote it). Even so, it still involved me enough that I wanted to read more.

Look Homeward Angel is also a fantastically good book. And even though he is best known for writing long novels, Wolfe's short stories are also pretty wonderful. You ought to try one called Only the Dead Know Brooklyn, which is very different from his novels.

You'll thank me!

This brings memories of the past: I went through a serious Thomas Wolfe pahse at one time.

Reaction to his wordiness, I'm sure, is a matter of personal taste and personality.
I don't see how one could read this author while messaging firends or watching the news. Wolfe requires singular attention, and those pressed for time might be turned off by this requiremsnt.

His run-on sryle reminds me verty much of being immersed in a river's waters. The words and thoughts envelop the reader and carry him along to a plane where insights emerge, seemingly, through osmosis not in a precise, formulaic
fashion.
I've always been just 'carried away' by his prose.

Thanks for the review and for the remincer to reread some Wolfe. .

I noticed a typo--it should say "Wolfe is no doubt a writer's writer".
