[video] Ohio primary voter interview: Ballots, Hillary, Barack, Campaign tactics

Listen to an Ohio voter describe how she feels about the Cuyahoga County (Ohio) switch from electronic voting to optical scan, who she voted for, why and what almost changed her vote. I urge you to watch the entire video of this Ohio voter who had just exited the polls.

Disclosures that really don’t matter but might interest you:

I know this woman from my town here in Ohio – she lives a couple of blocks away. Her husband is on the school board and they have a couple of kids though I forget their ages. When she first saw me in the polling place, she walked right over to me (in front of the polling place head honcho no less, whom I’d shown my credential in order to let me shoot some other video I’ll post later about my experience and what the ballot looks like) to say, You were amazing! on CNN last week. And she went on and on – and…oh, well – this post isn’t about me, now, is it? :)

As she was exiting, knowing how absolutely crappy it is outside – and I do mean crappy – I didn’t want to stand outside waiting to try and get someone to talk to me. So as we stood inside just before going outside, I asked her if she’d let me interview her outside the “flag range” so that there would be no issues of propriety. And she said sure.

Other than that, nothing was planned and I haven’t seen her in a few weeks except maybe in the grocery store.

  • That was wonderful! She talks honestly why she voted for Senator Clinton yet doesn't disparage Senator Obama. And I really think regular people vote this way. They may think a candidate is good but they vote their gut and their experiences.

As singer/actress Jill Scott says: BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN.
  • Totally agree. Thanks for watching and commenting. Frankly, I was kind of in shock as she was answering because I agree with you - regular people analyze and vote this way - we are not stupid at all. Just human.
  • Wonderful original reporting there. The video was very well laid out, and fun to watch.

I don't discredit any of the woman's misgivings on her voting; it goes to show how close this primary contest has been between the two candidates. On the one hand, people respect candidate A and enjoy their message. On the other, they really want to support candidate B for symbolism and other matters. It's tough to make a decision when you like both.

Keep up the good work :).
  • Thanks very much, Peter. It is so incredibly crappy out - have I said that enough yet? :)

But I have to do some afternoon kid shlepping and might try to find some more willing victims!
  • AAAACK!!! TYRONE!! :) :) :)

Now I got back the original four comments but the new eight are gone - okay - can I just say that everyone has written great comments, we all hate this new system that makes them disappear and now let's pray that Ohio survives its election!!

I just amazed there are Michigan fans in Ohio. I thought there was a state law against that.
