Oh, I wasn't following the issue about concern for his safety, but the last sentence of the post.

Politicians, no matter their stripe or schtick, are always targets. It's unfortunate and repulsive, but a fact of life. To factor in voting for or against someone because they may get killed? No, thanks.

What you want doesn't follow from concern about Obama's safety, but is amusing.

I don't know to what extent the Dem establishment and the DC fixtures will meddle and work to ensure roles for themselves in an Obama-led executive branch, but I suspect there will be a lot of effort to achieve this.

I've been supporting Obama due to his higher potential for change. However, potential and actual change are two different things, and I will definitely be curious as to his appointments if he reaches office.

I think that there are a good number of citizens who would support either an X or Y party member in a certain office, as long as they had the credentials to take the job and ability to carry their duties well. As you said, it would be a nice change of pace from what we have seen in the decades' past.
