Today's GOP has become the equivalent of that old blacklight poster of the dragon eating itself. It is the GOP of Reagan, Atwater, Dobson, Falwell, Gingrich, Rove, Podhoretz and Bush the Lesser, having dumped Eisenhower, Buckley, Ford and Goldwater.

It is now what it had hoped to become beginning mostly with Reagan's first term. Lowest common denominator, competency and honesty always trumped by loyalty, divide and conquer, with God guns and gays it's only causes.

Conservatism weeps.

"Delusional = "far right" references when and where the far right has no clout or even presence."

Look, I understand buyers remorse, but this is just silly.

Office of faith based initiatives
Abstinence only sex education
No federal funding for stem cell research

The list goes on and on, and each is a bow to the far right.

No wager, because, right now, Clinton/McCain is what I am guessing the matchup will be

And that one might be so close that we'll be back to counting chads in Dade County.

So Casual, you think the GOP is going to win with someone other than McCain? As I see it their only hope of retaining the White House is a McCain/Clinton election. I'd be willing to make a wager if you're up :)

It just goes to show that the talking heads on the FOX news network and those who appear regularly represent the ideological and ignorant part of the GOP. McCain is a reasonable man and one whose willing to acknowledge errors in policy. This is the why he has been showing so strong as of late because it is in such a stark contrast to the current administration and also his opponents in the primaries. Republicans want someone in office whose not a hardheaded bull in a china shop.

Sadly, the neocon machine and its mouthpieces at FOX are not about to shift gears. It is my hope they get left in the dust. The fact they can't prioritize well enough that they are willing to piss all over the one republican that might pull out a win in November shows how myopic the neocon view has become. Compromise is the heart of successful politics, and it looks like the GOP will have at least 4 years to let that lesson sink in.
