Not all Black Americans came to American on slave ships. Some immigrated from Haiti, Barbados, and Jamaica (granted they too descend from slaves). In the last century America has gotten a significant amount of African immigrants who were actually directly from africa. It doesn't matter how your ancestors got here. What makes one an African-American is the fact that one is an American whose ancestry is traced back to Africa. An African-American is an American of African descent. Not all Black Americans came to American on slave ships. Some immigrated from Haiti, Barbados, and Jamaica (granted they too descend from slaves). In the last century America has gotten a significant amount of African immigrants who were actually directly from africa. It doesn't matter how your ancestors got here. This Nigerian pundit's writings are a quibble that overlooks the 4-ton elephant in the American electorate's drawing room.
