I would say that Donald Trump gaining control of the Trump Organization, worth $200 million, after his father passed away indicates that those boot straps he pulled himself up on were probably bespoke. Plus even though Mr. Trump didn't get an MBA he did get a MA in Economics from Wharton. While Bill Gates recieved money, it's really not clear how much, from his father a wealthy Seattle attorney , William H. Gates, to start the forerunner to Microsoft.

George Bush obviously hasn't inherited anything yet as his father is still alive but admittedly received familial help. And since none of the three being discussed went to a local JC or took outPell Grants it seems more than likely that at some point all three "...slurped from a silver spoon."

Pat Lang had a post the other day linking to a Jim Hogland article at the WaPo about the MBA. The Lang post and WaPo article was about Bush' lack of comprimise in negotiations in the Middle East. For all those enamored with a MBA executive I give two examples of buissiness success that wouldn't translate to effective politicians - Donald Trump and Bill Gates. these two are successful on their own, W slurped from a silver spoon.
http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyran...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...

I don't want this post to be interpreted as saying that those who spend large chunks of their lives in the business world shouldn't be president. My only point was and is that history doesn't suggest an automatic acceptance of Romney's argument that because he spent time as, essentially, a capital investment banker, he knows how to "manage" the US economy. That's not supported by the historical facts.

Mark Daniels

The corporate model doesn't work for nations unless you think the purpose of a corporation (or a nation) is to make it's executives rich. Corporations have shareholders, employees and customers. Democratic nations have the same thing but they are all the same people; a trinity, if you will. For this reason a president cannot in good faith throw a bunch of citizens overboard to maximize shareholder value - you can't lay off your shareholders or your customers. Romney knows business - but business is psychotic in that it will sacrifice anything and anyone in furtherance of profit. Profit is not (supposed to be) the goal of government. Romney is not qualified to lead this nation.

I knew that Romney was a corporate hack from the beginning and never liked him. It's so obvious that he only cares about youre vote. Why else do you think he's flip-flopped on key Republican side issues like abortion and gay marriage. If Hillary is a hack's hack, he's an über-hack's über-hack. There is absolutely nothing good to say about the guy. And the evangelicals would NEVER support a Mormon. This guy's a joke! Don't take him seriously.
