If it's a choice between an ideologue and an accountant then I'll vote for the accountant every time. Ideologues tend to get impatient and try to speed up the dawning of perfection by lining people up against dingy brick walls and shooting them.

NIcely put. I really appreciate the understanding of how those two concepts are not mutually exclusive. No apologies should ever be necessary when discussing down to earth, nitty gritty reality, and understanding how mythology plays such a powerful part in it. And thanks for the fine poem as well. What a coincidence; my mother just sent me a poem from another Persian poet, Jalal Al-Din Rumi, called “Who Says Words with My Mouth, in which he asks the same questions 700 years ago that many of us ask today. I agree, 2008 will be a critically important election. So many things are coming to a head, we need a person of great energy, vision, and integrity at the helm more than ever.

Our country in the 1700s was a hyphen seeking many more paragraphs added, compared to the long long set of pages that need editing now. I see your point in praising some of the peaceful enactments in the 1700s nonetheless.

Well I guess if one is only 15 then truly the next election is the most important election ever by golly. But the rest of US history might suggest that the election of George Washington as the first president and with 100% of the Electoral College votes and the election of 1796 of John Adams made possible by the peaceful handover of power by George Washington.

Also highly doubtful that this election was more important than the election of 1828 when the first true populist, Andrew Jackson, was elected. Or the election of 1844 where James Polk became president and after trying to buy the province of New Mexico eventually won it by force of arms and nearly doubled the size of the US. I would also say that the election of 1860 where “…that vexatious problem…” of slavery would be solved. Or even the election of 1932 when Franklin Roosevelt kept the country from becoming socialist . And if we do have the misfortune of either Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama win then as I posted here once before, thank God for checks and balances.

Besides I thought originally that you were referring to Bill Clinton's last State of the Union Address.
