There are two reports that have come out recently that shed some light on the poor state of national reconciliation. First, the Center for American Progress reviews the latest developments and finds that the Iraqi government has only met 3 of the 18 political benchmarks. Second, the International Center for Transnational Justice has a report on the De-Baathification law and, like others, they remain pessimistic about its worth.
thanks for the link to the ICTJ. This is the first I've heard of the group. I'll read more later. On the plus side, with no one else commenting on your post the neo-concern trolls can't rant about Soros, yet.
The reports, regardless of where they were published, seem to be fair in their conclusions. However, they are stand alone reports only, looking at the events as if they were in a vacuum. It would be helpful to provide some comparison to other countries that have gone through the reconciliation process, you know, like, how are things going in the Balkans? Its been about 15 years, where are they? You get the idea, you're the fastest runner around until you have to compete with somebody.
You can't believe the disgust that I feel having been beaten here by a hand-wringing-wet-diapers surrender at any cost troll.
