Most American politicians are confused about what to say in the Middle East. There is a fundamental conflict between the Arabs - whose aspirations are the elimination of Israel as a Jewish state, and Israel - which wishes to keep existing. So any promise of peace that an American president makes will be interpreted by the Arab nations as a promise to pressure Israel into making suicidal concessions.

Just a general comment-This is one of the best political blogs I have seen. Thanks for posting wonderful posts with good analysis. I was getting frustrated by the single sided views on other blogs from both left and right wing extremists without any importance to practicality.
