Well, somebody (even among the Democrats?) must fear McCain because "They're At It Again" in South Carolina:

http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/McCainFly...

http://abcnews.go.com/images/Politics/abc_FactS...

I and my bullet-proof vest will probably encounter you sometime. [grin]

* * *

Why not a distilled version as a letter to the editor? Good luck if you try it.

Have fun in U.City -- wish I had a more open schedule this weekend; would be interested to catch up with you. Re: the op-ed submission, what I wrote here was not what I submitted to the paper; in fact, the version with McCain v. Obama never made it out of my inbox to them, only because the earlier version (which focused on McCain only and was not as favorably worded as this one is) was the one where the editor informed me of their specific-candidate policy for unsolicited submissions. Net: He was fair. But I was the one who couldn't broaden my thoughts beyond one or more candidates, which is why I didn't bother him with later rewrites. The editor's rule is a fair one -- if he violates for one unsolicited contributor, he'll have hundreds more demanding equal time. Possible on a blog; not in a daily print publication with limited space for opinions.

Well, maybe the editor is a strong Clinton or Obama supporter and just can't bring himself to accept an essay that ultimately rejects Obama in favor of McCain.

I'll be in U. City (quite Deep Blue itself -- "wanted" poster of Bush, sought for terrorism and war crimes, etc.) this coming Friday evening and Saturday and will have to check out my old neighborhood to see if Clinton or Obama is winning the yard sign war.

DLS -- that's really not fair. Yes, it's a left-leaning paper, and the op-ed editor is a clear progressive in his views, not fond of Bush. But he's also remarkably intelligent and has been very fair with both this particular and prior essays I've submitted to him. He publishes from across the spectrum.

You should have NO problem getting published in that paper if you were to criticize Bush.
