A DELAYED “This just in!” from the investigative reporter Brad Jacobson at Media Bloodhound:
Less than 48 hours after suffering an upset in New Hampshire, Barack Obama was dealt another serious setback when Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) endorsed his candidacy for president yesterday.
Without warning, Senator Kerry – who ran a masterfully inept 2004 presidential campaign, stewarded by Bob Shrum, The Worst Campaign Manager on the Face of God’s Green Earth™ (as stated on his business card) – blindsided the charismatic Obama in South Carolina. As Mr. Obama addressed a cheering crowd in Charleston, Kerry broke through security and took the stage. With what Senator Obama would later describe as “a mixture of deference and horror,” he initially played along, allowing the battle-worn Massachusetts senator to present his prepared speech.
“I’m John Kerry and I am reporting to duty…to tell you, the audience, on this day, Thursday, January 10, 2007, that I, John Kerry, have decided to support Barack Hussein Obama, the junior senator from Ilinois, in his quest to become the next president of these United States of America,” Mr. Kerry began. “I know Barack Obama,” he continued, as Mr. Obama turned to the crowd and shook his head, mouthing the words, “No, he doesn’t.”
There’s a lot more READ THE WHOLE THING.
I want to see Move-On and International ANSWER make endorsements.
Well that was a pretty entertaining read, especially the part where John Kerry got tased.
Yeah, my hope is that we don't see very much of him from here on out. Nothing personal, it's just that (for lots of us) he represents more of a boat anchor than anything else.
I didn't think this was funny at all. Senator Obama and Senator Kerry had been planning this endorsement for a long time. I am thrilled my favorite Senator- John Kerry has endorsed another fine senator, Mr. Obama. With Senator Kerry's 3 million plus e-mail list filled with supporters and contributors and Senator Obama's message of hope and change. This is a real powerhouse team. I hope we see a lot more of Senator Kerry- like this past Sunday on ABC's “This Week” program campaigning for and with Obama. They make a great team.
Oh, and frankly, many of us are getting tired of the Jr. High slam humor used against Senator Kerry. It is unwarranted and it makes those who continue to use it appear childish and uniformed.
Senator Kerry came within 60,000 votes of unseating a war time president. No candidate in any election before had been able to do this. And the Senator came closer than anyone in the past. Mr. Kerry won with more votes than President Clinton. And, before you suggest that those votes were ABB, I want to inform you that is a myth. An overwhelming majority of those voting for the Senator voted for him because they thought he would make an excellent president. The ABB votes are a small majority compiled of sore losers who candidates of choice did not make it out of the primaries.
I would be pleased to see much more of Senator Kerry as he continues to take leading positions in Congress and beyond and helps shape our nation's path. It doesn't take much to see what a great man and strong leader Senator Kerry is. All you need is a little maturity and the ability to think.
