Unity08 team moves to Bloomberg

The NY Daily News reports Two from presidential reform group quit to draft Mayor Bloomberg for 2008 bid

While the obvious interpretation of this is preparation for a Bloomberg presidential campaign perhaps there is another.

If Bloomberg determines that the odds are against him for a run perhaps he might consider an alternate use for his resources that also serves his passion for Progressive Centrism.

As he did in helping Senator Lieberman’s Campaign by assisting in data management of voters perhaps Mr. Bloomberg could do the same thing for other candidates for Congress who subscribe to his version of pragmatic moderation?

Without a Senate that embraces collaboration we are pretty much in for the same kind of gridlock we witnessed this past year.

If anyone can do something about this it would be Mr. Bloomberg. If anyone could be the leader of a Centrist movement it would be Mr. Bloomberg.

If not a King then perhaps a benevolent King Maker?

Unity 08 = elitist don't-rock-the-boat Business As Usual in DC. Worthless.

Bloomberg = junk gun lawsuits. Worthless. Cleveland is filing a junk lawsuit over failed subprime loans -- is Bloomberg next?

Paul - The right subject title for this piece should have been "Unity08 moves back to Bloomberg."

You've got feel sorry for the people that bought into Unity08, and invested their time, money and hopes in the concept.

With Bailey running back to Bloomberg, t seems obvious now that from the beginning Unity08 was indeed a Mike Bloomberg stalking horse, funded and staffed by Bloomberg loyalists. They couldn’t pull off the Bloomberg run within the Unity08 structure, so they closed up shop to make room for the imminent Bloomberg Independent candidacy, redirecting management and money resources to the impending campaign. The worst part is that I like the idea of a Hagel/Bloomberg candidacy. Problem being, the whole thing smells so manipulative, so contrived and betrays such contempt for the Unity08 supporters that I am going to find it difficult to support him now</a..
