Here we are, a year later, and I find myself hoping that BO has more in common with Lincoln and Kennedy than he wants. WTF are these clowns trying to do? I don't know--do you? These guys are trying to set off the worst of Charles Manson's ideas.

Don't even get me started on that little Timmy Geithner.

"Is Barack Obama comparable to some of America’s greatest presidents in terms of the level of inspiration he inspires"

No. However, if (this is far from materializing currently) he were to continue to improve his polling and his appeal to voters, in his own way he might, might, be able to match Reagan.

I think from a global standpoint, there is good cause for the praise being heaped on Obama. The Bush years have been a real shocker, with America taking on a belligerent and aggressive foreign policy, forsaking and insulting many of our allies, and turning our backs on what the world thought were our most deeply cherished values: the rule of law, due process, free speech and a steadfast opposition to torture, detention without charges and imprisonment without conviction. The rise of Obama is a signal to the world of the resurgence in America of a determination to return to our values, reclaim our place of leadership in the world and return to being the America they thought they knew and loved.

I have not been an Obama supporter, but I fully understand how the world can view him with, dare I say it? Hope.

there's a basic flaw in the premise - Obama is not president, and hasn't had to deal with anything as president, therefore comparisons and contrasts are useless.

I wonder why Americans still buy into the idea that politicians should inspire us in boring times? You can't "inspire" about healthcare - which is why Obama really doesn't have a great plan - but you can talk about how you'll bring about the same change as anyone else - namely being "not George Bush. If you do it better, then suddenly you're the chosen one, the anointed one?

I would caution anyone who thinks like this to remember the election of George W. Bush - and to consider the achievements of presidents in both parties during "boring times.'

- temple
