Iowa is not really a reliable bellweather for the rest of the country. The GOP turnout was low, and mostly included voters from the religious right, who Huckabee most appeals to. He won't win in NH- where it will come down to Romney or McCain. He could win in South Carolina, but it seems like they'd go for Thompson.

While there is no dispute over the technical meaning of the Baby Boom (those born from 1946 to 1964), with Obama the question of the Boomer definition has been raised before and a number of people have written elsewhere that those on either edge of the cohort (before or after the terminal years) may or may not consider themselves Baby Boomers, depending on how they feel and on the circumstances in which they grew up (especially the later Boomers). I'll stick with the strict definition.

I agree with the claims that Huckabee won't be the nominee. Wall Street and the business community will see to it, if need be, that his campaign either is sabotaged or he is shoved into the VP slot to bring those back-of-the-GOP-bus Religious Right votes reliably home in November.

The turnout here in Iowa set records.

Here are the top three finishers on each side:

Dem

Obama 37.6%
Edwards 29.8%
Clinton 29.5%

GOP

Huckabee 34%
Romney 25%
Thompson 13%

Superdestroyer (and others), you can check caucus results by county here. (caucus results map)

Let's see how things are after Feb 5. Don't overreact to Iowa, even though it was fun to see the ****** ***** place third. (Hey, she can be VP...)

Independent voter is probably not the correct term. The better term is swing voters (Democrats who may vote for a Republican). However, as the demographics of the U.S. change, there will be fewer swing voters and thus thus fewer competative elections.

SD - On this morning Scarborough show someone said that 3 to 4% of Obama's vote was from registered Republicans. The power structure on both sides aren't happy.

I also wonder how Obama did in eastern Iowa (those media markets next to Illinois) versus those in western Iowa.

Listen up, Dems. Iowa has told you tonight that Her Hillaryness is absolutely unelectable. Don't ignore the message.

If it is truly the party's desire to come in from the cold, nominate someone who has a chance at winning: Barry Obama.

Do not strap yourself to the mast and listen to the siren song of Hillary!

Obama for president

If he can win in Iowa and do well in New Hampshire with Independent support, Obama will have earned the opportunity for a final appeal to Democrats. As he does so, he will undoubtedly tout his then-proven ability to attract Independents and attract new voters into the process. That is why Clinton’s status as frontrunner will be more vulnerable.
