I’m cynical enough to agree with GreenDreams. The DOJ may still be compromised, with the Bush WH pulling the strings.It will take more than the replacement of Gonzales, who was probably only taking orders directly from Bush, to clean it up.

Look at the 4 year investigation of the Plame leak—-the VP’s role was never clearly identified, and the only conspirator to get convicted of a felony had is sentence commuted, and may yet be pardoned next year. The checks and balances no longer work the way the Founders intended them to.

I can’t help it. I think the administration is determined to appear to be doing the right thing while actually practicing its continuing strategy of damage control through “internal” investigations. Durham is to investigate his own DOJ. His boss and his boss’s boss have no incentive to see this result in bad publicity, let alone indictments, and can simply direct him not to fight the inevitable stonewalling.
