One must assume that when in doubt, Republicans will try anything to awaken resentment in the White men of the American republic - against the reign of a woman or the son of an African.

Never mind that reality in the USA is far removed from this, and in fact reverse racism and sexism by the Democrats in this election are expected by the informed and intelligent.

2008 will test and set new limits on its own capacity for social change

This is PC beyond ordinary Euro-trashiness.

Interesting that this German newspaper assumes that Obama's race and Clinton's gender will be significant hurdles in the electorate. Though I'm a solid liberal and well aware of deep-seated sexism and racism in America, i actually don't think Obama's race or Clinton's gender will work against either of them - in fact, I think quite the opposite is possible.

I do have to say, however, that I often wonder if the BS "Obama is a Muslim" charge is actually a more PC substitute for an attack on his blackness. It strikes me that anybody who genuinely believes Obama is a Muslim and will consequently not vote for him is the same person who would NEVER vote for a black man for President (especially a black Democrat). But this is just a hunch.
