Anyone who ignores the Iran threat is at the very least sadly naive. Worse still is to attacking those who have cooler, wiser heads. (No shrieks of joy at this unusual news and no additional bashing of Bush and any willingness to confront evil acts or threats.)

Well, I'm not objective, as a vegetarian, pet-owning animal lover. I'm just glad he's going to serve actual jail time, not probation or community service arranged by his high-priced attorney.

I think the sentence was probably too light. I mean Vick killed the dogs by drowning, electrocuting and hanging because they did not meet his expectations. And I'm assuming that he profited from the dogfighting, so the whole situation is about as cold and heartless as one can get.

Isn't there some saying about being able to judge how a man will treat any future wife by looking at how he treats his pet dog?

I'm also wondering how the prosecution, who wanted a sentence of a year to 18 months, views his pets.

Casual- Couldn't you be going down the slippery slope with that kind of logic? Judges who love their kids can't rule in pedophilia cases, judges who just bought new expensive houses might be biased in property damage or burglary cases. I'm sure that theres some kind of sentencing guidelines for the crimes that the judge has to adhere to. The sentence seems fair to me, as its not the run-of-the-mill cruelty to animals case.

Wow, I’m glad to see Holly and others like her are so keen for justice, it always amuses me how some people can get so worked up about an animal or an inanimate object (The Flag), yet shrug their shoulders when real live humans are involved. Holly's comment from an earlier Post a perfect example: “As a Democrat who is dubious of the new NIE, I am not happy with our candidates’ insistence that the military option be “off the table” with Iran. I hope I don’t have to cast my first vote for a Republican presidential candidate in November of 2008.”

I mean who cares that 16 different national intelligence agencies found no evidence of a current nuclear weapons program; she still wants the option to kill some Muslims. Instead of caring that before we consider bombing some innocent people we should at least get the information correct, she and others like her save their caring for the dogs. Michael Vick that bad, bad man is going away for killing some dogs and that is what I should care about.

Michael Vick is an ass, what he did was wrong and their is no explanation for it, he rightfully was judged and convicted and is going to serve time. But I don’t feel any glee in him having to go to jail; I just accept it as righteous punishment.

P.S.

I currently have two Pekingese and have owned and loved dogs from the age of 6. I’ve also had the sad misfortune in my lifetime to bury two of my dogs and both times I cried like a baby.

"That leads to the obvious question of whether a judge who loves dogs will be more likely to come down hard on a man who confessed to killing dogs."

If that's the case, then the sentence is appropriate, since America loves dogs. I've grown up with and had dogs all my life and believe that anyone who gets off on dog fighting is not a well person by any stretch of the imagination. I have no problem with the sentence.

Munson writes that Hudson loves dogs, and that he and his wife bought a West Highland terrier puppy as soon as they thought they could afford to keep it. That leads to the obvious question of whether a judge who loves dogs will be more likely to come down hard on a man who confessed to killing dogs.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Munson writes that Hudson hates gambling -- so much so that when he was a prosecutor, he "initiated a massive investigation of a bingo operation." If Hudson thinks bingo is something he needs to crack down on, what will he think of the tens of thousands of dollars that Vick spent financing bets on dog fights?

To the author's credit, he wrote this article before the sentencing.

He got what he so richly deserved. I have no sympathy for anyone who gets pleasure or profit from the misery of animals-none of whom ever had a chance.

He probably wanted to make an example of Vick, send a message. During sentencing he reminded Vick that "You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you."

I stand by my belief that someone who would abuse an animal would almost as easily abuse a child if they thought they could get away with it.

I must say I'm suprised by this. The prosecution was asking for a year to 18 months.

The judge was obviously disgusted by it all.
