Those who have visited recently are amazed by how little the majority of people care abou it. Those with money are too busy flaunting it (in a very crass way, reportedly) and ignoring those who don't. Like in America, the age of consumeism and the pursuit of wealth replaces matters of principle. Russian democracy has a long wait ahead, if it will ever truly flower.
