Paul Ryan Tries to Tell How to War Through the Seasons

Oct 11, 2012 by

There’s a saying in the military, you can always tell the warmongers from the frontline soldiers. One prays for destruction, the others pray for peace.

here’s Mark Twain in his anguish on praying for the terrors of War to rain down on others during the seasons, summer, winter, all the year…

“O Lord our God,
help us tear their soldiers
to bloody shreds with our shells;
help us to cover their smiling fields
with the pale forms of their patriot dead;
help us to drown the thunder of the guns
with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain;
help us to lay waste their humble homes
with a hurricane of fire;
help us to wring the hearts
of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief;
help us to turn them out roofless
with their little children
to wander unfriended the wastes
of their desolated land
in rags and hunger and thirst,
sports of the sun flames of summer
and the icy winds of winter,
broken in spirit,
worn with travail,
imploring Thee for the refuge
of the grave and denied it.”

~Mark Twain, “The War Prayer”

Here’s von Clausewitz, military strategist whose works are studied across the world who lays the emphasis on the season of the minds that build up to endless wars:

“Politics is the womb in which war develops.”

~Carl P. G. von Clausewitz

    But, but, Dr.E., he has been to Afghanistan once or twice — and he has memorized the names of the provinces and towns over there quite well….

    Too bad there isn’t a requirement that politicians who develop war also have to take part in that war – or send their children – or their grandchildren. What better way to insure a more careful weighing and measuring of the need.
