Don Imus Back on Radio: Media Got it Wrong

Don Imus is back on radio. Tonight on CBS Nightly News with Katie Couric, the Imus clip was terrific. He said he would not do anything to make the women of the Rutgers team question the sincerity of his earlier apology.

Then… in case people who love him feared he’d lost his brand of humor… he said that Dick Cheney is still a war criminal and Hillary Clinton is still the devil… and that he’d signed a five year contract, because it was going to take that long to get back at everyone. He was in fine fettle.

Then CBS Nightly News dove straight into the offal pile by running a LOUD voice-over of Imus calling the Rutgers players “Nappy headed ho’s.” Remember it was McGuirk who’d led that charge with Imus sleepwalking into it… see earlier article here

FOUL! CBS News. You ought to be fined for running that voice-over. FOUL! You’re supposed to have at least room temperature I.Q.s over there.

Imus JUST SAID he would honor his apology. How come YOU, CBS News, didn’t?

Maybe we’ve wondered why Yaweh Jehovah destroyed the world so many times trying to get it right?

It had to be over crassness like this. Lightning bolt, singe, poof, ashes!

Maybe Creator just kept hoping for a higher quality of human at the boards.

CBS has many ground-breakers…MANY… like Bob Schieffer who carries a dignity in reportage that definitely makes him venerable exemplar of the Central Broadcasting Network; the late Ed Bradley from 60 Minutes who was sincerely interested in stories beyond ‘formulae…’

But this night. A head-shaker.

Even so, Mr. Imus, has his first interview lined up with an 08 candidate running for nomination: Bill Richardson. I’ll be tuning in.

Yea, well I guess CBS had to remind people why they fired him and then had to pay him off, so why not repeat the man’s offense to everyone’s chagrin. Just so when you watch him you know that CBS was right to fire a convicted-in-the-court-of-public-opinion racist. Raped women too, used to complain about being raped several times before they cycled through the system. But Imus does make his money being a sharp and humorous observer of our tail-biting society and when I am in one of my less conscious moments, you might find me laughing at the radio as they make fun of things that, if I think about it, are not always funny. They say, FOX pads its programming with sex crimes so we can all show our disdain for the scantily clad women on the screen and the crimes they commit.
Or maybe I’m becoming a prude in my old age. Kids in any school yard never hold back, “hey four eyes, get your jelly butt over here.” and whatever else passes for humor as we slither into the new age. One things for sure, IMUS ain’t the victim. Who are the victims?
