I’m an atheist and ultimately I feel all religons are kinda silly. However I’d be a fool to make the mistake that just because people have some beliefs I find silly, that they are silly people. Obviously great people who’ve done great things throughout history have held religous beliefs that are whacky, and still they manage to shake the world. I’ve recently come to digest the fact that even if you think the world is flat, 6000 years old, and made in 7 seconds by a spaghetti monster, you can somehow not ony deal with the real world, you can propser and succeed in it.

That being said, my religous wierd-o-meter has the following ranks.

1) Started by con men
2) Involves space aliens
3) Involves other planets
4) Popularized by famous entertainers
5) Centered around stuff from thousands of years ago

I think Romney was smart not to bring up this weakness of his until necessary. As a strategy, if I were in his shoes, I’d try to build as much support as possible to ride out these sorts of issues which are already known problems.

It doesn’t bother me that Romney is a Mormon, as long as he doesn’t create a Mormon US.

There are plenty of issues on which I disagree with Romney for me to consider supporting him. I seriously doubt he would be a shoo in as the Republican candidate if he weren’t a Mormon. Doing better, yes, but not a shoo in.
