One of the most annoying things in the world to me is knowing a song by tune but not title, and not being able to find it. Normally, I’ll just punch the lyrics in a search engine, but that doesn’t work for instrumentals.
So, while I don’t like viewing TMV readers as my personal gophers, I’m enlisting the collective help of the blogosphere in my quest. Does anyone know what the song playing through most of this YouTube video is? (The song I’m talking about starts at 0:48):
It’s a pretty well-known song, I’ve heard it before in many other contexts, but I have no idea how to figure out the title.
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: Found it! Contrary to popular belief, it is actually not Lux Aetnera, although that did get me on the right track. But that version, alas, doesn’t have the guitars hard charging strings — it’s much slower, mellower and quieter. This one is a remix, done only for The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers trailer, called “Requiem for a Tower.” But if you look for that, you’ll only find a chopped up version by the Cornerstone Cues. Here’s the real thing.
David,
That is Lux Aeterna by the Kronos Quartet.
Aren’t the internets great!
I came over by feed, but then saw you’d already figured out what it actually was.
Since I’m already here, can I just say that whenever I happen to hear the piece you’re referencing, in snippets or otherwise, I get the urge to go dial up Glass’ score for “Koyaanisqatsi”?

Dear David
tidy response: Thank you for asking the question. And thank you commenters for your generousity of time and help. I find our commenters often add amazing ingredients.
wild-a-response: THAT is the most beautiful music crashing into, really in through the glass of my monitor this morning, and filling up any empty vessel in the whole house, window wells, underneath the sofa, in the cones of the lampshades; i think it even forced open every book on the wall as well. WOW. Any time a person turns me on to a poem, a writer, a piece of music that just blows my ciruitry, I feel like I have been carried on the wind. Thank you all, all of you this morrning, for that gift. I’ll go to hear the other piece commenters wrote about too.
geez have to go straighten my clothes, I feel like I was caught in a sudden chinook hearing that music. lol
don’t even know my own name anymore, let alone yours. lol

ps. privately or on tmv, David, more!… more musical choices by you. Outstanding, this one.
It really is nice isn’t it? Adds drama to even the most mundane events. And I give credit to the person who created the video — he did a great job integrating the song to the action.
If you liked that song, the only thing it reminds me of very specifically is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Try their rendition of “Carol of the Bells” (“Christmas / Sarajevo 12/24″)
