It’s Back!

It’s that time of year when everyone is buying turkey, the price of pork goes down and McDonalds offers its famous/infamous pork(ish) sandwich, the McRib. This is the third year in a row McDonalds has promoted the McRib Farewell Tour. McRib Farewell Tour 3.

I’ll put it out there. I love the McRib. I know it doesn’t taste like any other pork product I’ve eaten. I know it’s probably pigeons or ferrets, but if they say its pork than I’ll believe I’m eating pork. Anyone who speaks ill of this glorious sandwich is dead to me for the next six months. The McRib is delicious. Who do you think you’re kidding? You love it too. 600 calories of messy perfection. If you’re looking for an even faster heart attack, they’ll put cheese on it if you ask.

The only problem for me is finding a participating McDonalds, because although Virginia is one of the participating states, every McD’s around me is too stuck up to offer my sandwich. I wish I was still in Chicago, because I know they’re all over there.

Sweet! This is some quality blogging about issues that are near and dear to me. I’m in the SF bay, what do you think my chances of finding one are? Maybe they have info on their website.

I hate the sandwich but I love this post.

Finally, someone who will drop all PC pretentions and admit they’re willing to eat pigeons and ferrets, as long as they taste good.

That’s honesty. That’s legitimacy. You should definitely run for president!

    :-)

Preach it! I love the McRib and wish it was on the menu year-round.

Eating the first McRib, in a while, is good. Having one a week later, not so much. The week after that … ehhh. I eat more McRibs with the occasional promotion — enough time has past for me to forget the belly busting I endured the last time I had one.

    Sweet!

    My preference for BBQ sauce

    1. Pork — the other white meat

    2. Pork — just wait until 2009!

DLS you really need to draw the line somewhere. Politics and food should never mix. Just look at the rediculousness of the whole “Freedome Fries/Toast” thing. Will we never learn from history?

Someone should add that to the forum rules.

Well, I could have asked aloud if what Angela says about negative views of the sandwich implies the reverse is true…but I couldn’t resist the obvious.

There’s no store-finder on the tour site, apparently.

Try the East Bay, which isn’t as snobby as SF, Marin, or the Peninsula. (I grew up in the Bay Area.)

Humor is humor. Did Bush blunder and order McRibs for everyone at Annapolis, you may ask?

  11. Shaun Mullen says:

Then there is the greatest political food blunder of all time: John Kerry asking for Swiss cheese on a Philadelphia cheese steak when he campaigned in that city in 2004.

  12. DLS says:

Shaun, you’re too sophisticated. Now if he had asked for “French” instead of “Freedom” fries during the campaign, well, just hold your gut and imagine how right-wing talk show hosts would react.

As for this thread, given I’m in the Midwest, I may go by McDonald’s restaurants here (which I otherwise don’t patronize) to see if there are any McRib posters or signs posted there. (Surely one or more of them would advertise their participation!)

  13. T-Steel says:

I remember my McRib making days back in 1989 (I was 16). Ahh the joy of throwing that slab of meat on the flat fryer and then dipping it in the luscious sauce. HAPPY HAPPY! JOY JOY!

  14. Sam says:

Not for nothing, if you google “participating McDonalds Mcrib”, TMV comes up as the second search :)

  15. Sam says:

And Angela, McDonalds has the McRib listed at a svelt 500 calories. Thats probably without the bun and sauce, but I know how folks here at TMV are about fact checking :)

Here in Iowa, where we “pick corn, not presidents” according to New Hampshire fat-heads, and which is also known for hogs (and soybeans, and ethanol politics as well as wind farms), my real-world easy reality check of the area (driving by McDonald’s restaurants, which I prefer to call “stores”) shows the posters are indeed in the store windows.
