Site Maintenance Tonight 10-05-2012

Source: Data Center Knowledge (www.datacenterknowledge.com)
Starting at 9pm ET/6pm PT, The Moderate Voice will be undergoing significant behind the scenes upgrading and optimization. TMV is growing and has outgrown it’s current platform. So it’s high-time for some turbocharging. We anticipate this to take roughly 3 hours.
During that 3 hour period, you may see the following:
1. A slightly older version of the site without commenting ability
2. Very slow loading times
3. A maintenance page
These behind the scene changes will significantly speed up the site and allow us to serve MANY more visitors at the same speed. We will also be able to add some features that have been discussed for awhile but couldn’t be implemented. This work will be performed by myself and my female alter ego in a Japanese covering Shika “Cyber Goddess” Akimatsu. Thank you for your continue support and patience.
Please use this post for pre and post “behind the scenes” upgrade chatter.
* UPDATE *
We’re going to do some of this tonight and finish the rest tomorrow (with minimal site downtime). Just want to make sure we let things settle a bit after the first big chunk of work.
* UPDATE #2 *
TMV on the new hardware platform and running fine. The next step is to work on getting these ads to not slow down the site and other minor tweaks but the good thing is that we can handle more visitors without killing the site. A win-win!

I’m glad you are going to be able to speed it up – it was by far the slowest blog site I visit and I was about to email you and ask about that.
Thanks Tyrone… Oh and in your spare time
could you put the Comment # (i.e. “2 Comments”) above the article?
That way you can see if other comments have been posted since your last visit without having to wait for the page to load. Just a thought but then… wha’d I know.
TMV is carrying almost 8 years of content (45,000+ posts, and 315,000+ comments). A substantial amount of it came from the old Powerblogs system (which was a PAIN export from). The technology and the price point is now PERFECT to get TMV into the future on the backend.
