The Internet puts vast, overwhelming amounts of information at our fingertips. It’s a truly great thing, and more and more of us not only have the time to search, surf, and troll through this ever-growing digital repository, but we’re also compelled to do so to earn our livelihoods. With this…

It’s pretty frustrating to see so many people be emotionally invested in AGW denial. Yes, we can thank FOX and similar ilk for much of that ignorant state. It is truly shameful.
They are too busy flogging the latest “white house (non) scandal” to worry about the weather. It is amazing how much misinformation – not slant, actual misinformation – is dispersed on FOX.
And the lengths FOXaholics are willing to go, with truth looking them in the eye, to defend Roger Ailes version of the world we live in.
Wonder what their great-grandchildren are going to think about them and their lies… I already know what my grandchildren think and it ain’t pretty.
We are living in strange times when our first question on News is; What is the Source. Is this true…
Recently listened to a program about U.N. Agenda 21…What is the truth with this one? Is Agenda 21 another conspiracy blowup? Was totally confused as to the truth on this one…Tried to research it and still trying parse out what is true…Has anyone come across this one?

Also they had William Jasper with the John Burch Society speaking on this one… Such strange bedfellows with UN Agenda 21…

You can look at the Wikipedia to see what it is. If a website has “democrats” in the title, but has the same positions on a topic as American Thinker or The Blaze websites, you can be pretty sure no regular Democrats are involved.
Rod Serling would be so proud that The Twilight Zone is real.
Another question… how does the media go about making corrections for this kind of journalism? Is there any turning back or have we all fallen off the cliff? Does journalism have any kind of policing for reliability? Or are we finally catching up with Buddha, question everything believe nothing…
Stating that the information is “just plane wrong” is at least as wrong as FOX is. The article cited states “93 percent of Fox News Channel’s representations of climate science were misleading (37 out of 40
instances).”
Although climate change probably is the greatest single issue facing mankind, the debate today should be what can we do about it on a practical basis, not trying to establish blame (mankind did it). Suggestions as to what can be done, with scientists claiming that a point of no return has been reached. (don’t close/useless to close the barn door after the cow has left). No suggestions are made along this front in either the UCS article or the one above. Just an implication that we are not hand wringing enough.
Along the same lines, deliberately stating that Fox “lies” when the truth is that “Fox uses examples and bias that probably will result in false thinking or conclusions amoung it’s viewers”. I think maybe they learned this from every politician on earth.
The UCS published a revealing expose’ of big oil companies (primarily Exxon Mobile)Who have been busy distorting the truth about Climate Science and calculating ways to discredit the scientists, organizations and publications that have been desperately trying to spread accurate information for many years. The report is called SMOKE MIRRORS AND HOT AIR, and compares the disinformation campaign of big oil and its common strategies shared with Big Tobacco companies that used lies and disinformation to dance around the fact that cigarettes have many toxic ingredients and known carcinogens. They managed to keep the public uninformed about the unhealthy nature of their products–even though being fully aware of the dangers of cigarette smoke for decades.
The motivation of course is centered around profits and economic advantage, a powerful motivator to ensure that the public would remain ignorant of real dangers for many years.
Part of the strategy has been to find minor faults or distort scientific facts, just enough to keep the public skeptical–after all if the people are made aware then that awareness could cause the eventual end of such large scale scams. Just like Bush’s observation that Alqauda has much time and resolve to seek weaknesses in even just one part of our defenses in order to launch a devastating attack, and the fact that, we need to be right 100% of the time to foil such plots, Big oil has circulated minor mistakes and distortions about climate science–having only to reveal tiny inconsistencies in order to cause public doubt over a topic, which Al Gore dubbed “an inconvenient truth.” In fact, most of us really do not want to think about it, since it involves uncomfortable feelings about our future.
Sadly, these denier campaigns capitalize on our general lack of scientific knowledge and our propensity to want simple answers, to create the illusion that world scientist are engaged in some kind of a sinister disinformation campaign–just the opposite of the actual truth.
Unless the public wakes up and forces Congress to enforce their political will by taking effective measures to cap carbon emissions, and develop reliable sources of renewable energy, we are all in big trouble. If companies like Exxon Mobile are unaware of their own ignorance, then it seems understandable that they would unknowingly underestimate the seriousness of what they are doing to destroy our chances of halting global warming, or (possibly) being able to reverse it. However, since they employ knowledgeable scientists of their own, it would seem more believable that they are being deliberately deceptive in order to establish a “drill baby drill” mentality that may help us slightly in the short term, but ultimately would resemble a form of suicide concerning our ability to prevent disaster.
It’s a shame if those who deny scientific knowledge can only feel that they are being blamed unfairly as being culpable for taking part in the deliberate suppression of scientific knowledge that could have helped end this environmental emergency. And,it is natural for those of us who know the accurate facts about climate change to hold these people in contempt for being so obstructive towards the knowledge that might solve our problems, but, the real goal of science, is just to wave a warning flag for all of us to see. We are not going to be goody goody, or holier than though if we accept the truth–we are really just taking an interest in saving our own asses, as well as those of the rest of humanity. Even for Exxon Mobile and Shell oil, this is really just a matter of survival!
The true danger of all of this political deception, is that, those of us who could use their voices, and votes, to make a difference, will remain unaware of the true intent of those who are so eagerly distorting facts, in order to enhance their own wealth.
In the end, it won’t matter what we believe, or what we don’t believe, about science–ever more extreme weather patterns will make believers of us all.
It would be great if those who spread false propaganda, like the big oil companies, would realize that they are also shooting themselves in the foot with their deceptions, and that (as far as human survival goes) the macabre joke of knowledgeable denial is on them too!
is on them also!
Mislead eh… Well, let’s see:
O.K… I’ll go along with that… Fox NEWS MISLEADS.
Fox NEWS intentionally misleads their viewers and there is no excuse for their rampant (37 out of 40) misrepresentation of the facts.
Yes indeed, words matter. Not sure what abufarsi imagines can be gained by giving passes to organizations who deliberately foster ignorance. Much better to call a spade a spade. This country is already dumbed down enough thanks.

Reading a philosophical reminder this weekend brought it back to me: the “truth” ultimately doesn’t require some measure of belief or persuasion, majority rule, or consensus. It bears itself out. It lasts long after the hyperbole. The difficulty comes in doing-something-about-the-truth in some timely manner, which is where we’ll all potentially suffer in the long-run.
I find this relevant with Climate (not Weather) change, and with the state of our health care system in the US, and the growing income and wealth inequalities and distribution in the immediate context. However we spin them, there are real problems and they won’t go away with election cycles. Real leadership would be greatly appreciated on both counts–
