You are right; it cannot. Ironically, the true extremism fringiness associated with libertarianism is principally and almost exclusively among the opposition it draws, not among the most fervent proponents of it.

The fringe of the libertarians/Libertarians is quite crazy, but this cannot discount libertarianism. Janis Karpinski is part of the fringe, yet all anyone hears is her being a victim of Abu Graib.

In the Clinton/Hsu case, it “revealed” that Clinton is a Chinese agent. Obviously that’s deranged right-wing BS, but they hate Hillary, so they run with it.

In the Paul case, it reveals that people who argue for “liberty” and “states’ rights” are arguing, among other things, for people’s right to discriminate. This is common sense and obviously true when the rhetoric of the right over the past 60 years is examined.
