Maybe pundits need to stop listening to each other water cooler style and start listening to the candidates.

Or to the electorate.

1994 elections heavily favoring the GOP were no surprise whatsoever to normal, ordinary voters, but they were a shock to the pundits and other elites, who frequently are out of touch with the real world.

If they don't call the election right this year, they'll be surprised again, then if it's a Republican that is elected, stage two will be attacks on the voters as unsophisticated, xenophobic, easily misled, hateful, and plenty of other lies.

It's similar to what we hear about those in the USA (the majority) wanting immigration reform in the correct direction (tighter, not looser controls; enforcement of existing laws) and about those in the UK motivated to emigrate, by those who, again, are out of touch with the real world, engage in the stupid, predictable, hateful trend of bashing Dobbs, etc.

* * *

Here in the Midwest Obama continues to hold his own fairly well against Clinton and may be more popular than Clinton in some locations. The real world can tell you plenty, beginning with the following observation: Note the frequency of yard signs and bumper stickers for each candidate.

"Conventional wisdom"- ha, not with politics!

I for one am glad to see someone who's shaking the status quo stay a contender.
