Is Ryan in Romney’s 47 Percent?

Sep 19, 2012 by

The latest hoof-in-mouth uproar raises a philosophical question: As Romney divides the country into makers and moochers, into which category does Paul Ryan fall?

As he railed earlier this year against 47 percent of Americans “who are dependent upon government,” did Romney have any notion that his future running mate might fit the description?

Ryan, a former devotee of Ayn Rand, also subscribes to her theory about “looters” and “moochers” who drain society of the wealth created by productive members but his own career raises questions about the divide.

Since leaving college two decades ago, Ryan has been on government payrolls every day of his career, first as a legislative aide and then as a member of the House.

Ryan also used survivor benefits to pursue his education. The Ryan family was wealthy, yet he slopped at the public trough…

Ryan also voted for all of GWB’s budget busters. Why anyone thinks that he would change everything he did when there was a Republican adm., is beyond my capacity to reasonably comprehend.

As I’ve said before, when it comes to government goodies, tax breaks, etc, the wealthy and upper middle class get more than the poor and lower middle classes, in both absolute numbers and in percentage of income. It was kind of exciting to begin straddling then moving over the line a few years back… you mean all I have to do to get 35% more out of my retirement savings (no taxes??) is put it over here in this 401k account? Neat-o! So hubby and I can effectively make $1500 extra each month just by buying a house instead of renting? Super! So I can just take my extra money, put it in stocks, and as long as I hold it for a year, I pay less than half the tax on all the profits? Um, yeah, I’m gonna do that. So I can continue to grow my salary as high as I can muster, but I’ll never have to pay any more into FICA? Whoa.

What my household saves on taxes each year in government goodies is more than a lot of people make. Every one of those items listed (and I know I’m missing a lot that the very wealthy take advantage of) requires disposable income. If you don’t make enough to save a down payment, you cannot take advantage of owning costing less than renting, nor the deductions on the interest. If you don’t have much extra left over at the end of the month, forget contributing to a 401k or IRA, or even invest in stock — the smart move is to save as much as possible in an emergency fund.

My elderly mother is in the 47%. I do not appreciate Romney and other radical right wingers calling her despicable names.
Shame on You Mitt Romney. You are a piece of Mitt.
