I don’t have sympathy for mobs that kill people over their anger at a film. It’s a reflection of stunted development that probably has its biggest root in religious zealotry. It could happen, and does happen, right here in the U-S-A.

But what I hope it gives us pause about is our foreign policy empire-building attempts to bring “freedom” to Arab nations with our military might, or to “protect our freedom” by having our troops where they don’t belong in the first place.

And I will celebrate the day that we have a “president,” not a “commander in chief,” who doesn’t defer to the opinions of what the generals and admirals think we should do with foreign policy versus what might better serve the needs of the American people in general.
