Republicans and Democrats alike came down hard on Mitt Romney Wednesday for an act of political opportunism when the White House hopeful said the Obama administration “sympathized” with attackers in Egypt. The results of the assault on the US embassy in Cairo were not known when Romney fired off a…

The Statement I heard given by US officials had nothing to do with “apologizing for America”, but it did involve distancing ourselves from the irresponsible people who made the film which helped touched off the powder keg in the first place. If we have said anything close to apologizing for America, it would be merely that we regret the actions of Americans who seem to think it is their God-given right to throw gasoline on the fire of a delicate diplomatic situation–having no regard for any of the sensitivities involved.
What I also heard was that the Whitehouse immediately express sympathy towards those who lost their lines–as well as Secretary Clinton’s statements about the disturbing fact that we were one of the countries that made Libya’s revolt against Colonel Qaddafi and his regime successful.
Then there is also the fact that Muslim diplomats, who understood Clinton’s statement, definitely did apologize for the misguided band of terrorists who, did this horrible deed! They made this apology quickly and, They also explained that these murderers were not representative of the people of Libya in the least. We know that all of this is true, and, it is unfortunate that Mitt Romney is so quick to play the blame game at the drop of a hat. It is very likely that if he, as President, had taken such a dense position of blind, chest beating, condemnation, he would only have made the situation worse. Indeed, being a successful businessman does not mean he knows diddly squat about diplomacy! But Obama has battle tested experience in that area, and is a President who realizes the value of engaging his brain before using his mouth!
I’m surprised Romney was dumb enough to make those comments essentially accussing the President of siding with the attackers. I’d understand that kind of silly reactionary comment from Rush or Coulter, it’s their job, but for the GOP candidate to be shooting from the hip like that isn’t going to be doing him any favors.
