The Demonization Of Hillary Clinton Approaches High Gear

ThumbsDown.jpg

This is now getting ridiculous when it has reached this sewer-level point.

NOTE TO THOSE WHO THINK THIS WINS VOTES: There are independent voters such as myself who truly will listen to all candidates, even those with which we disagree strongly, and make up our minds accordingly. This kind of speculative crap does not BELONG in American politics.

It may delight those who already see X, Y or Z as evil incarnate (because X.Y and Z dare disagree with them on issues so anything can be disseminated to take them out) but there are some voters who will make sure that the side that promotes this kind of bilge doesn’t get their votes on Election Day. Look at recent elections and you’ll find that independent voters should not be totally written off.

This goes for Democrats, too. But this allegation is about the worst you can make.

And some of these folks bitterly complain that Democrats have “Bush derangement syndrome?”

When will we hear about how Hillary was spotted disguised as a tramp on the grassy knoll in Dallas, Texas on Nov. 22, 1963?

And (sigh), yes, we've already heard the "real" story about Vince Foster...

NOTE: Why not take Ms. Clinton on in the area of issues? As was seen last week, there are honorable areas for authentic debate.

UPDATE: Rick Moran of Right Wing Nuthouse (a site that needs a new name) looks at the “Bush Derangement Syndome” that he dislikes and sees its roots in….Clinton derangement syndrome. A must read for all sides.

Who exactly are you so disapproving of? The woman trying to sell here book? The paper (or website) that publishes the story because they know people will read? Kind of like you did? This is standard publicity for a book not some political cabal out to get Hillary. Is it garbage, yes of course, but come on!

  2. I LOVE IT. That’s right. TMV actually controls that website and that book company. In fact, we control (and invented) the Internet. It’s a teeny weenie bit hard to note this issue without including a link because then readers will bitterl complain, don’t you think? But to spell it out. Disapproval goes to: a)the woman selling the book b)the website that is running the excerpt from the book which if you read it happens to be linked with the company publishing the book c)the style of political campaigns in this country where you must try to destroy a person’s reputation rather than use a quaint form of politics where you focus on an issue and vigorously and perhaps at times stridently debate the issue on both sides. So, yes, I am disapproving. Totally. And it fits into the whole pattern of how American campaigns now play out. Responsible people on all sides won’t step into the septic tank, but the bottom line is that in our elections anything is game and any allegation can be made. When will we read a speculation about a candidate’s romp with a sheep?

It is beginning to look like sharks circling a lone swimmer.

    Debate? Fine.

By now, though, if she sneezes, there’s a firestorm in the blogonsphere and on cable news.

I’ve never been a particular fan, but this is becoming alarming. The need to crush and destroy on a dialy basis makes me question the level of sanity around.

The embers at BJ posted on this yesterday. Clenis set up a lab in Brazil, Hillary’s spawning a baby Disney’s and Williams’ and Flub-a-Dub to bring back “family values” and capture that vote.

  5. Good post, in general. I dislike Clinton because she’s very sold-out. She’s a corporatist, for irresponsible globalization, and would just delay the next war, not work to prevent it. But she seems to clearly articulate her opinions on these. She’s up-front about being a very centrist Democrat, which is what most people want (though not me), so the press – even the “mainstream” “liberal” press – resorts to making up shit and criticizing her “character,” meanwhile, Giuliani lies through his teeth on a regular basis and gets a pass.

In general, a good post. However, the page you linked to seems to think there’s some similarity between blaming the Clintons for various suicides and worries that the Bush admin will start a war with Iran and arbitrarily inter American citizens. According to this person, that this “hasn’t happened” obviously means that leftists are “deranged,” just like Clinton Derangement Syndrome.

Now there’s plenty of paranoia on the left, Peak Oilers especially, but dismissing concerns over the erosion of our civil liberties and high-level saber-rattling as “derangement” is a pathetic right-wing dodge. Compare and contrast!

BDS: “They’re gonna start another war!”
    CDS: “They murdered Vince Foster!”

If the difference isn’t clear to you, congratulations, you’ve been mediated! (Hint: one is a concern of real weight based on clear history, while the other is bullshit made up by crackpots whose only purpose is to smear. Guess which is which!)

Doma: The desire to support and the enthusiasm for Hillary, such a bland and status quo candidate makes me question people’s sanity.

If people truly want a break from the disastrous W years, Obama or Edwards are the choice. But if the Dems go with Hillary they will be alienating folk like me, who’d vote for the other 2 but will walk if Hill the Chill gets the nom, thus making it a closer race w Rudy or McCain.

Again, the D’s are their own worst enemy- not the R’s.

  7. capelza says:

    cosmoetica,

To compare the enthsiasm for Hillary with someone saying she believes that the Clinton’s murdered her husband (though before it was a couple of lawyers she harrassed right into an arrest warrant) and getting the backing of WND…

There is attacking on the issues and there is filthfy, dirty stuff like this.

    I made no such comparison.

I’m with Beaverton_jewboy on this one. The sypmtoms of BDS are rooted in actual actions the president has taken and are likely to take than in the wild speculation that the Clintons were part of some cocaine smuggling cartel murdering people to cover their tracks.

  11. Sam says:

Also, this is why I really think Hillary shouldn’t be president. The CDS/BDS crap is all part of the same cycle of media hackery, and if she is elected its going to ramp up again. This lady is nothing, just an author trying to sell her book, but its a foreshadowing of whats to come. There can be no unity with a Clinton in office.

  12. cosmoetica says:

Sam: I think we are in a permanent state of PDS- Presidential Derangement Syndrome. If Lincoln were alive he’s be demonized worse than he was in the 1860s.

  13. The problem with Rick Moran’s take on it is that he draws a parallel between CDS and BDS without making an honest acknowledgment that CDS was and is a far greater phenomenon among the right that real BDS is among the left. The bizarre accusations against Clinton are stranger and more numerous. The weirder accusations against Bush such as knowing in advance about 9/11 have never come as close to the Democratic/liberal mainstream as the accusations against Clinton such murder and drug running are to the Republican mainstream. Don’t forget that Limbaugh announced one day that he knew that there was going to be a major announcement about Foster and the Clinton’s “involvement” the next day. Remember that Falwell helped distribute a video accusing Clinton of being involved in drug running and murder.

  14. Joe: I’m with you. The demonization of Clinton is ridiculous. It’s taking hatred of an individual to a whole new level.
