I always favored actors with wit who could pull off great dialogue over the John Wayne types who would just duke it out. I never understood all the fuss about Wayne. Redford and Newman symbolize what Hollywood should be about-putting your money where your mouth is, and still making great movies while you do it.

well, h.e.-double hockey sticks... rewrite it as the
journey of two old guys cross-trail, one of whom has memorization,
invention and confidence issues, and all else abut him shines more in that dark. I've never been much of a fan of 'beauty boys,' but these two have acting cred and considerable street cred with many who dont follow 'party line' anything. Endangered species.

While cable surfing I stopped at the Billo show, Billo went off on a phony rant about Redford. Redford is doing something right when Billo attacks his agenda. Like the indoctrination BS over the Potter homosexual agenda.

Newman never struck me as a great actor, although he was in some good films. In a sense, his teaming up with Tom Cruise in the Color Of Money pitted the two most vapid actors of their generations, and it worked, for that.

Redford, on the other hand, could act. And one of the few solid directors who started as an actor- compare his to the schlock of Gibson, Costner, Eastwood, and now Penn.
I recall Redford in a Twilight Zone episode as Mr. Death. He had something more than looks. If Newman was the Tom Cruise of his day, Redford was the Brad Pitt, and Pitt has it all over Cruise.
