I Tol’ You & Tol’ You, Orwell’s 1984 has Gone Retrograde
Dick Cheney, Rummie, all the rest, will no longer need their loolie of waterboarding, along with the morally challenged clinical psychologists who signed on to assess and say whether a man being tortured at any US ‘terrorist’ facility was at the edge of madness or not. (My father spits and makes the sign of the cross to hear of such inhumane ‘professionals.’ But then, his family is composed entirely of survivor refugees tortured by the Nazis and whoever survived, dragged and tortured by the Red Army).
I wonder what would happen instead of putting such ‘read your brain’ devices to ‘read minds’(as is vaunted in this article) it were put to some higher purpose according the the many rather than the few—though Creator knows we have far more than enough of those who think they can ‘read minds’ in our culture at the moment, what with various personalities flailing at others, projecting out of whole cloth what they are just sure the other ‘secretly’ harbors or inveighs as a danger to all.
What if, however, the device spoken of here, could accurately read the best of the human heart. Now that would be evolutionary.

They’ve been scary ever since the Bush admin pulled us out of the Geneva convention and ok’d the use of torture. A new toy doesn’t make any difference. Its the men who actually do this kind of thing, and those who allow them, that scare the crap out of me.
