Phase 1 – Design Change Complete

Aug 19, 2012 by

Hello TMV readers and commenters!

Phase 1 – Design Change has been completed. It is a radically different look than the previous design but will serve you and TMV better by allowing:

- More social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc) integration
- Additional comment features to be added
- Better overall compatibility with future WordPress editions

As you can see, posts are now in small squares (with excepts) that start newest from the left to right on down. Some posts are missing thumbnail images but that will update itself soon enough. Along the left sidebar there is also Recent Comments and Recent Posts areas as well. Throughout the week, minor changes will be occurring (like bringing back Featured Posts) but will not bring down the site. We are excited about integrating a new TMV Facebook page with the site and that will occur during this upcoming week as well as part of Phase 2.

This design is our course and we’re sticking to it. Well, we might tweak colors and such. Maybe… =)

Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Can someone tell me how to use a photo for an avatar? Last time I tried to do this it seemed I couldn’t just upload one of my own photos and had to take some other route – but I forgot what the process was.

    Very professional looking….

  6. If you go to http://gravatar.com it allows you to upload a photo that is recognized automatically on this site and thousands of others. That’s what mine is.

I think you can use the browse function to find any jpeg or jpg picture in your picture file. My buckeye is from the gravatar.com T-Steel indicated – I saved it in my picture file for future use.

T-Steel – Great job! I know how much work it must have been getting it just right. And it is – just right! Thanks for all your efforts.

BTW, Love blue — my favorite color — soothing, calming, refreshing…will come in handy the next couple of months :)

Pages seem to change faster and quotes and other HTML seems more pronounced all in all it’s a great change. Good job all.

My only suggestion would be for you to make all the front page ‘thread boxes’ the same height… But what do I know. ;)

  11. Actually SteveK, me and the Oriental Web Goddess (HER WORDS NOT MINE) Shika are looking into those same size boxes. We’re going a bit back and forth about it but we’ll see. The reason why the pages change faster is because the site is actually 65% smaller now. The old design had much old and inefficient code that just slowed things down.

That would be nice Tyrone but whether or not the boxes are all the same it’s great… It looks super and it flys!

Thanks again for all your hard work.

    Great design, T-Steel.

  15. One observation- The font is too small, increase it by a couple.

T, I dig the new comments boxes. Really much easier to read comments. Many scroll through and it will make it easier for them too. Some read every word, and the boxes will work for them too. Really nice design feature that is also utilitarian. Thanks! Pls tell the Goddess too, thanks!

Might the headlines on the articles be a different color perhaps? It’s a little bit of a sea of black and white with the thumbnails being smaller and the ads actually carrying the most color. I love black. I dress like I’m going to a vampire party, or a funeral or biking. lol. But I also love red. A life-giving color when it stays within boundaries.

Thanks again esp for your time T, and your attention to DETAIL.

If you can figure out too why admins have to log in again each time we leave the page and then come back, even if use checkbox on wordpress saying ‘keep me signed in’…would appreciate it. If not now, layer. No rush.

PS, I LOVE that the entryway for eds and authors is at the top now instead of bottom of front page. MUCH easier. Thanks.

  18. Change is hard, I’ll use it for a week before making real feedback. So far, it works fairly well on iPad.
