A prediction

Aug 13, 2012 by

I just know it. If Romney and Ryan get elected they’re going to Thelma and Louise the economy. When everything totally falls apart as it does every time their sort of strategies are tried, they’ll blame the Democrats for the mess. That’s what they do and we always seem to fall for it.

Will it happen again. Well… One has to stand in awe. These guys are genius manipulators.

Kay I remember last election go-round a comment about the seeming pattern of every 30 or so years the Democrats having to come to the rescue after years of bad management having taken its toll on the country. Seems about right in the context of my lifetime, with the exception of the economy that Reagan inherited. But he spent his way out of that, raising the deficits exponentially.

And deficits became defined differently by the GOP from that point onward, at least while they were in power. “Reagan proved that deficits don’t matter…”

The other difference now seems to be the almost-religious belief that supply-side trickle down is the tide that raises all the boats.

But I’m beginning to think that THAT particular explanation doesn’t really matter anymore on the GOP side, and there is more honesty in the Rand-ian philosophies that are emerging–Government is the problem sort of thing.

Wow what are we looking at for the future?

KW, like the Thelma and Louise prediction for R&R administration.
I guess, contrasted with that would be the sloooow drying up of the economy as we spend and tax our way to non-bankruptcy.

One bright area of the economy will be schools for learning Chinese.

dduck may be on to something. I was talking to some IBM engineering friends over the weekend, who explained to me how many of our engineering jobs are exported.

I hadn’t realized it but in Central Texas there are bids coming from Chinese Civil Engineers, about roads in Texas!

Their advice for our college-bound kids: get a job that can’t be done over a wire.

  4. Dduck – Maybe we all better learn how to speak Chinese. And yes we’ve worked ourselves into quite the pickle.

  5. By the way I distinctly remember Cheney saying that deficits don’t matter while Bush #2 was in office. I guess they only matter if they can club someone else with them.

A second language makes a better man- Confucious

Of course we can also all convert and become Mormons and vote that Mitt’s tithe be increased to the income tax rate for those making over, say a million (earned and unearned combined).
Then Mitt would have the incentive to lower the income tax rate so he would pay a lesser tithe.
Of course we would somehow have to get him elected (ugh) first.

I’m too old to learn a new language. Too old to dig a moat too. What to do, what to do…

Z, those I-pads- made in China- will translate Mercian to Chinese and what with sub-titles, you will be just ducky (Peking, that is).
