This is a disease infesting much of news coverage, not just the NYT or the current coverage of Gore's Nobel prize.

We have, everywhere, the talking heads screaming at each other, and the result is that a lie gets as much honor as the truth.

It's abandonment of principle for the sake of profit.
The bottom line is that controversy sells, and responsible journalism can not compete commercially. In fact, it's a way of creating controversy in order to make more profit.

We all lose, as a result.

darnit...that whole last paragraph wasn't supposed to be a link. Hopefully this link works to the process of when nominations happen.

JS..you do realize the nominations for the award Gore received happened in February don't you? And he was not the only person/group nominated. While I think the monks are brave for their stance, they would only be up for the award if someone nominates them next year. This isn't something that is awarded at the drop of a hat.

<a href="http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/process.html" rel="nofollow">

And no Joe, I do not think they covered it fairly. It's news and that is it. Cover it as such. Posting some illiterate and disparaging comments on the front page is asinine.

I agree, this sort of twisted, extreme form of political correctness is a legacy of the Fox "news" tabloid mentality - a mentality that predates Fox (think Rush), but certainly reached mainstream in recent years.

Perhaps we should also give equal time to folks who believe the earth is flat? Perhaps our school science textbooks should be given as much space to those who believe the moon landing was a hoax as it does NASA? Perhaps hospitals should employ the use of prayer as a viable alternative to surgery in cases of a bad appendix? Afterall, it isn't fair to let science have so much say right?

Personally I think the prize should have gone to the monks in Burma, but the choice of Al Gore and the other scientists who have been working on global warming is justifiable. Even after all this time, I continue to be amazed at how matters of the environment have come to be so associated with the left. As though the repercussions from environmental irresposibility are only going to effect one party. Yeah. Right.
