It’s truly fascinating to watch former Vice President Al Gore’s critics — particularly those who insist global warming is merely a liberal buzz phrase — belittle his winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Would they belittle the prize if someone THEY agreed with won it? George Will and (a visibly aged) Sam Donaldson go at it:

While I think Global Warming deniers are silly, so is awarding a ‘Peace’ Prize to Gore.
What does this have to do w resolving tensions or wars?
It certainly isn’t any sillier than awarding Presidential Medals of Freedom to Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Bremer and Tenet!

KR – I think Gore winning the award is almost as silly. Frank Zappa is talking to the Spahgetti God about this award.
Britney Spears or the Dixie Chicks are as deserving of this award as Gore is.
I’m dismayed at all the cynics.
Gore gets an award for long years or work;
In any other country, an achievement and international recognition by a national would be met by celebration, whether the recognized were n author, an athlete, or whatever. Some countries still have national prode, but not us. We’re just too godd for that.
Only in America, is achievement rewarded by derision.
Everyone is an expert: So and so is more deseving, this is sittly, that is ridiculous.
Everyone’s judgment is just so bad, except MINE. right?
I see a sea of bah-humbugs, with nothing to offer but a stream of put downs. God forbid we should actually congratulate anyone but ourseflves!
