Politically he's sharp as a tack- yet seems totally clueless about current and past policies. I'm sorry, but I don't think its too much to ask that he understand the policies he puts into place.

Doma- I agree with you. Congress - at least on the House side seems to be behind the curve on many issues- but it just seems like Bush has this dumb cowboy act perfected to a T. Whenever he gets a hard question he acts like he's the last one who should have to answer it. Bush is the one whose policies put BW in Iraq, so he should at least know the basics.

I just am having trouble believing he's as dumb as he puts on, and I keep thinking of how Gonzales acted just like that in the Senate Judiciary hearings- where they were asking the right questions, but finally gave up in frustration.

Krit-

The hearings on BW courtesy of C-Span revealed that the questions posed were no more well informed than the Pres.
They kept asking BW questions about bad or lack of law, which are not up to BW, after all.
They kept asking BW questions about costs which were not well informed re how to calxulate costs.

An opportunity was missed to highlight exactly what if is that everyone should be better informed about.
The admistration is in charge, and so first responsibliry goes to them.

If hearings and criticisms go not further than just blaming, then we are stnding sitll, not progressing.
For progess, SOMEBODY has to be well informed.

How pitiful that the first year college student has more on the ball on this issue than POTUS, who as usual, has to pass the buck. This attitude of casual ignorance seems to accompany the pres and many of his top appointees on a wide variety of issues. He delegates all of the details of his policies away, then has a convenient excuse when he knows nothing about them.

Maybe the fun person who would be great to have a beer with should n't be trusted with matters of state. In this situation, Bush appears about as well-informed as the White House janitor.

That there hasn't been enough thought involved seems more than obvious.

It's been either yes or no, without considering tthe how. The same is true for criticisms, I would say.
It shouldn't be about whether to hire firms like BW or not to hire them It should be about how to manage them, which laws govern them and who bears responsiblity for their actions.
