What is the point?
What is the point of having any democracy anywhete is we can't have democracy everywhere?
What is the point of eating bread when you really would like cake?
What is the point of applauding a baby's first step if he can't run the mamathon?

What is the point of anyhting if you cna't have perfection?

I need to see Gore and Carter gather together all the other surviving Nobel Peace Prize winners and travel to Burma Now.

They need to demand to meet with fellow Noble Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi. They need to remain in Burma as physical witnesses to the restoration of Democracy.

What is the point of having the Nobel Peace Prize if any Military Junta can imprison any laureate anytime they want, as in the case of Aung San Suu Kyi and the monks of Burma?

It's alarming that Burma's time in the headlines was so short.

We may not be able to fix it. However, China is sensitive to world opinion, IMO, and it could have an influence.
When the world is watching Burma, China knows the world is also watching it.

Thanks for continuing to write about it, even if the news is not good.

Well ultimately we have little say in how a nations gov't deals with its people unless we are willing to back it up with force, and we are not. And unfortunately sanctions aren't even on the table because its neighbors like China are just as corrupt and despicable. We can't be responsible for everything. Besides, the UN is unable to fix any issue without American support and financing which is unavailable until the Iraq war is over.

Of course, Burma is an abstraction to the MSM as well the public.

Recall after Columbine, how there was so much outrage? Even if it was not the first school shooting, it seemed like something 'big.' Now, after Va. Tech, it's nothing, and despite all the outrage over Cho, it's yawnsville.
