Fred’s understatedness – to use an understated term – won’t kill him in a debate environment. But it will kill him on the trail. He simply won’t do all the hard leg-work necessary to sell himself to primary voters so they won’t get to know who he is or, more importantly, why he thinks he should be President.

Joe- Don’t you mean Dan Bartlett? Bruce Bartlett is a former Bush administration official who left during Bush’s first term after writing a book that was highly critical of him.

As for the debate, Thompson needs to liven it up- his style is understated to the point of being dull and lifeless. I thought both Romney and Giuliani projected a lot more energy and power.

Dear God! I read almost the whole thing, and I have no clue what the man's position on anything is! How the candidates "come off" would be worth noting if the press weren't just making it up, as the varied responses to Thompson show (and just wait until it's the real election!). But it's become a retarded game that just turns our national debate into a beauty pageant. It's completely stupid. What does the man stand for?!?!? Shouldn't the issues get at least a nod? Can we try to pretend the people's opinion matters? Please? This post was a waste of electricity. Are "moderate" and "substantial" opposites? And really, what does it say about the scene that we're waiting to see if a candidate for the Presidency can go an two hours without crapping himself on ~~national~~ cable TV? Has Bush 43 really set the bar so low? This country is screwed, unless we start insisting people talk about real issues, and we start asking real questions. Let's not parrot the mass media's insipid stylings of current events, okay?
