The Lost Poetry of Sikh Poet Nunihal Singh Layal Father and Mother:
(Editor’s Note: This is part of an ongoing series to preserve on the Internet the “lost” poetry of Nunihal Singh Layal, the “Tradesman Poet,” who I met in New Delhi in 1974. Some poems contain his original introductions. I have a self-published book of his that is disintegrating and falling apart and over the next year or two I will run and preserve all of his poetry here. This includes every word of the original introductions. Joe Gandelman. FOOTNOTE: Due to a 9 month road trip this project was interrupted but it will continue until his entire book is immortalized online.)
Father and Mother
by Nuinihal Singh Layal
A best friend and guide
Through thick and thin in life,
Is always Daddy
and no other in life.
Mother is still higher,
much higher than that.
Knowing nothing more
but to love and pat.
Conceals defects of her children
under blind love and pat.
And here she fails as guide,
succeeds as friend;
Is a university truth.
All in all.
Told to all.
