What he is wrong about is that there is anything remotely good about islam. He is however correct that a muslim should not and cannot be trusted with holding public office.

How can you argue that you cannot trust someone solely on the basis on his/her religion?

I notice that our heritage becomes a Judeo-Christian one only when some third party is presented as the threat du jour: godless liberals or muslims. say. Otherwise, we’re strictly a Christain nation, I hear. and even Cathokics have had a hard time being included under our hertiage umbrella

It’s interesting and dispiriting that McCain’s remarks are analyzed and parsed only for their political impact. These little incidents hold a mirror up to America as it claims being the exemplar of tolerance. The image looking back is far from clear.

LL – I grew up in a time when the same was said about us Jews and heard it enough from others about blacks. In holding public office the character of that individual is paramount – not their gender, race or the way they chose worship G-d. Please take your prejudices out with the rest of the garbage.
